TACIS PROJECT R2.03/97 - Contract n°30303 Software Developme PDF Print E-mail

The Project consists of two different parts that are linked under the nuclear reactor safety umbrella and, in particular, within the framework of the accident analysis of nuclear power plants (NPPs).
Part A, deals with the execution of system thermal-hydraulics experiments aimed at understanding the physical scenarios and with the demonstration of the quality level of best estimate computational tools adopted for safety and licensing applications. The scaling issue should be the other relevant purpose for the design, execution and analysis of these experiments.
Part B, deals with the development, improvement and the qualification of suitable modeling for accident analysis including severe accidents peculiar to the RBMK. The main tasks consist in connecting a number of different models developed by Russian institutions and in demonstrating quality in the light of Western standards and procedures. The final goal is the achievement of a computational tool for calculating complex scenarios that are peculiar to the RBMK with the specific capability of evaluating the performance of graphite and its interaction with other core materials.
The activities related to Part A and Part B will be conducted in parallel and within different contexts (including various groups of Russian institutions), with the only connection being provided by the Project Director (identical for the two parts), by the application of the same selected procedures for software qualification and by the beneficiary institution (Concern “Rosenergoatom” [REA], for both Part A and Part B activities).

A project funded by the European Union
