Laboratory of surface mechanics - Tribology PDF Print E-mail
Tribology deals with every phenomenon related to Friction, Wear and Lubrication.
The Tribology Group of the University of Pisa has been involved in various theoretical and experimental researches, on piezo-elastofluidodynamic, elastofluidodynamic, fluidodynamic and fluidostatic lubrication as well as on friction and wear.
Gears, cams, hydrostatic and hydrodynamic bearings, roller and ball bearings, etc., are some of the mechanical elements studied.
The tribological design of kinematic pairs for mechanical transmissions working in extreme conditions is particularly interesting, with regard to the modeling of gear teeth and to the optimization of the journal bearings.
The researches have also a theoretical aspect, and are focused particularly to advanced investigations (aerostatic lubrication, magnetic levitation, investigation on friction and wear molecular phenomena, with and without lubrificant ¤ nanotribology).
